Pittsburgh Community Benefit Fund Decision Gets Booed

The Pittsburgh Community Benefit Fund (PCBF) Annual General Meeting(AGM), on April 21, sparked a strong reaction to its decision to approve funding for certain organizations for ten years. Many residents and PCBF board members openly opposed the motion and booed the decision to approve it.

Doritos One, Metabolism Zero

Ok I’m about to write something that will immediately make a lot of you hate me. Deep breath, here it goes – I’ve always been naturally thin. Sorry. I know it seems unfair right, I eat what I want, move as much as I like and the weight doesn’t stick to me. Like Teflon – except my Teflon seems to be getting worn-out, especially around the middle. Now, my pants are a little tight. Ok, truth time. I can’t do most of them up. And the ones I can aren’t very comfortable. What is happening to me? Is my fast metabolism getting tired?

Float your Fanny

Compost Concerns

Residents around the Norterra Organics plant got together with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and George Scott from Scott Industrial, the owner of Norterra Organics, to discuss a bit of a stink. The meeting was spearheaded by Gordon Skinner who contacted the MNR, local residents, and George Scott to discuss concerns about the plant.

Hula La

The women at Acfomi Employment Services started summer early this year. They opened their doors, dawned their grass skirts, put on their leis and partied with pizza, punch and the wonderful warm sun. Like Nathalie said, “There’s no particular reason for the party, it just helps us get out of the ‘Winter Blahs and into the ‘Summer Spirit.’”

Deployment and Dogs!

A group of local residents have pioneered a program called Paws for Deployment and have partnered with Barriefield Animal Hospital to foster pets while their owners are away on a mission. With frequent Afghanistan deployments and recent “last minute” Haiti deployments, it’s a service that will help ease the minds of military pet owners.
