Karate Kid For A Day

Impact Zone hosted a “Karate Kid For A Day” Open House to showcase the five Martial Arts disciplines of confidence, self discipline, respect, fitness, and self defense. Five stations were set up to show kids how fun it is to learn Martial Arts and to teach them how to become a more confident young person.

The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo

Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a psychological thriller and media phenomenon. It is part of a trilogy that has sold over 20 million copies and been translated into multiple languages. The movie is out and there are rumours of a fourth book. I’d heard a lot about this murder mystery. So, I was curious to get my hands on a copy.

Grow A Row

17% of Kingstonians live below the poverty level. Many have no idea where their next meal is coming from and too many have to chose between paying rent and eating regularly. The food bank helps out by providing as much nutritious food as possible, but their supplies are dependent on the generosity of volunteers and donations. Now you can help fill hungry tummies too, with a new program from Loving Spoonful called Grow A Row.

A growing Legacy

The Minaker’s green thumb has been passed down from generation to generation for 90 years. In the Roaring 20’s, Harald Minaker grew tomatoes in Picton and later became the Greens Keeper for CFB Kingston and RMC. Meanwhile, Elva Minaker started a small backyard greenhouse in the 1930’s so she could start her flowers in a more controlled environment. But then it happened.

Veterans Farmer’s Market is Growing

Jack O’Brien’s idea of starting a Vetran’s Farmer’s Market in Kingston East is really taking root. Hundreds of customers have expressed their appreciation to Jack and the vendors by visiting the market on Friday afternoons from 12-6 at the ANAF field on Gore Road.

Bye-Bye Birdie

This past month my family had unexpected visitors. It started when one lone robin built her nest above the light outside our front door. It was incredible for us to watch the progress she made. She laid her eggs and there she sat – and sat – and sat. Guarding her little eggs like
