RANA FM Afghanistan

As Canadians, we make an impact on the world, but we’re very reserved about taking credit for all the good that we do. For example, in Afghanistan, both Military and Civilians are educating the population about alternative crops, we’re distributing wheat seed, we are rehabilitating a dam, we are teaching their military, police and government and reinforcing skills like good governance, security and economic development. And to help educate the people about why we’re there, we have set up a radio station, RANA FM.

The Federal Champion for Municipalities

When I emailed residents to say that I was going to step down as Pittsburgh’s councillor, many responded that they did not know that I was an elected Board Member of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), and expressed an interest in both organizations. Although I enjoyed the work on both boards, it is the FCM that was the most interesting and the most fulfilling.

What do you do when your 1982 TV dies?

It’s hard to sell a TV from the 80’s….even on Kijiji. So what do you do with outdated electronics? On June 12th, Scott Environmental Group in cooperation with Ontario Electronic Stewardship and LaSalle High School collected 11.6 metric tons of old electronic devices. TVs, photocopiers, computer screens and hard drives all poured in as residents of Kingston East emptied their basements and garages. At the end of the day, Scott Environmental hauled away three big bins of eWaste.

The End Of An Era

Twenty-two years ago, Leonore Foster entered politics. In November this year, that era comes to an end, when Leonore passes the torch to a newly elected Council Member. On June 19th, the people of Pittsburgh township and several dignitaries gathered at the Barriefield Rock Garden to show their appreciation and celebrate Leonore’s successful career.

John Gerretsen, MPP said, “There are two types of politicians, those that complain and those who shine. Leonore, you are a shining example of a positive influence.”
