2010 – Favourite Part About Summer Contest Winner

Congratulations to Jordan for winning the “Favourite Part About Summer Contest.” Jordan, who’s 9 and will be attending Grade 5 at JE Horton Public School in September, says her favourite part about summer is, “ Being with family, hiking, bike riding, going for walks, going swimming, Canada Day, sleep overs and the heat.”

Kingston East Soccer Team Wins In Quebec

A belated congratulations to the Kingston United, U12 Boys Premier Soccer Team, sponsored by Oxford Learning. They won the Boucherville Quebec tournament in June. It’s the first time a team from outside Quebec has won the tournament. Way to go boys!

If you’d like to donate extra vegetables from your garden, you can take them to the Partners In Mission Food Bank at 140 Hickson Street, or drop them off at the Farmer’s Market downtown on Saturdays.

Purdon Conservation Area – Lanark

In mid June we walked amongst a rare display of thousands of wild, Showy Lady’s Slipper Orchids. These breathtaking flowers are located in a bog at Purdon Conservation Area, just west of Lanark.
This is Canada’s largest colony of this species of Orchid, with more than 10,000 of the 16,000 or so plants bursting into delicate pink and white bloom each year between mid June and early July.

Ahh… summer holidays!

Call it what you will (vacation, holidays, break, time out) but I’m sure we can all agree that holidays are an incredible gift. Can you imagine working for an organization that never lets you take a break, regain perspective, get inspired, acquire vision, take time to unwind or simply allow you to remember why you work so hard? These are, afterall, what holidays have the potential of doing!
