For more than twenty years the Fort Henry Gymnastics Club has been welcoming gymnasts from all over Kingston. It is the only Gymnastics Club located in Kingston East and as a Base Club, it offers discounted rates to Military families. The Club is located in the gym at the Batoche Community Centre on Lundy’s Lane and offers both recreational and competitive programs.

The Fort Henry Heights Skating Club (FHHSC) recently participated in the Annual Trillium Interclub Skating Competition at the Henderson Arena. For the third consecutive year, FHHSC won the First Place Trillium Interclub Trophy for the highest total in cumulative event points.

Kingston East’s, Taylor Perrin is one of the 17 skaters that make up “Ice Inspiration.” The Intermediate level synchronized skating team will be representing the Skate Kingston club at the 2011 Canadian Synchronized Skating Championship. Bronze medalists at their first competition of the season in early December had the team off to a great start. In mid February, the team took 7th place after their first skate at the Ontario Regional Competition and finished 6th overall. The top 8 teams qualify for nationals, therefore Ice Inspiration earned the right to compete at the national level.

A proposal for a new athletic facility to be built across from the Constantine Arena has been sent to the Ministry Of National Defence. The $4.2 million dollar air supported dome will boast a field that will be 85m wide and 120m long. It will provide an artificial turf for CFB Kingston, RMC, and civilian soccer and rugby players.

The new lights for the Berk Brean sports field got their first real workout on Friday,
October 22 when the Black Knights played the Ernestown Eagles. The lights turned out to be a lucky charm as they cast a warm glow over the Black Knights who won both the junior and the senior games with a sea of black and gold cheering them on. Back to school for children (and parents) across Canada represents a fresh start – an opportunity to have a great school year and put the challenges of previous years in the past. Ask most parents and they will tell you they want three things for their child in school.

Two new international size soccer fields are being built at John Machin Park behind StarTek. And four of the existing soccer fields are getting better drainage. After the two new soccer fields are completed in 2012, John Machin Park will have four mini fields, four intermediate fields and 2 international size fields.

Over 1000 elementary students participated in the 2010 Cross Country Championship. Congratulations to all the participants and winners of this year’s event.

A belated congratulations to the Kingston United, U12 Boys Premier Soccer Team, sponsored by Oxford Learning. They won the Boucherville Quebec tournament in June. It’s the first time a team from outside Quebec has won the tournament. Way to go boys!

St. Martha Catholic School dominated the soccer tournaments at the end May. Congratulations to all the players and the coaches.
